INS REQUIRING NEW I-485 FORM AFTER SEPTEMBER The Immigration and Naturalization Service has released a new version of form I-485, the major form used by people applying for permanent residency from within the United States. The previous form had been in use since the early 1990s. The new form, which is now available on our Visalaw.com web site at http://www.visalaw.com/forms/ , must be used for all applications filed after September 30th. The new form has been anticipated for quite some time. Many of the changes are in the instructions which now offer up-to-date information on new filing procedures and fees as well as changes in the law. Some of the changes involve discussion of the three and ten year reentry bars for status violators and the ability of H and L nonimmigrants to continue using their visas to enter the US after an adjustment application is filed. The actual form itself is largely similar to the previous version, though it is still important to use the latest version. < Back | Next > Disclaimer: This newsletter is provided as a public service and not intended to establish an attorney client relationship.
