NEW FEES FOR EXCHANGE VISITOR SERVICES DELAYED
Effective January 1, 2000 there were to be new fee requirements for various services provided in conjunction with the exchange visitor program. The new fees were to be as follows: · Request for exchange visitor program designation - 9 · Request for extension of visitor’s program - 8 ·Request for change of visitor’s program status - 8 · Request for reinstatement of visitor’s status - 8 · Request for waiver review and recommendation - 6 · Request for non-routine handling of a Form IAP-66 request -
However, because of the public comments the State Department received, the implementation of these fees has been delayed indefinitely. While the Department still believes the fees are fair and appropriate, it also agrees that they should be delayed while the former USIA continues to be integrated into the State Department, and to develop a comprehensive fee gathering system. This does not mean there will be any change in fees that are currently being collected, such as the fee for a J-1 waiver.
