WHITE HOUSE ISSUES FISCAL YEAR 2001 REFUGEE NUMBERS The Clinton Administration has issued information regarding the number of refugee admissions to the US for fiscal year 2001. There will be a total of 80,000 authorized refugee admissions, allocated by region as follows: - Africa – 20,000
- East Asia – 6,000 (includes Amerasians)
- Latin American and the Caribbean – 3,000
- Near East and South Asia – 10,000
- Europe – 20,000 (including 20,000 for the former Yugoslavia and 17,000 for the former Soviet Union)
- Unallocated reserve – 4,000
The memo also authorizes an additional 10,000 numbers for those who have been granted asylum in the US to adjust to permanent residence.
