INS BEGINS ACCEPTING GREEN CARD RENEWAL PETITIONS AT APPLICATIONS SUPPORT CENTERS
This year, many INS offices have been overwhelmed by the number of applications for green card renewals. Despite the fact that 10 years ago the INS began issuing cards with a 10-year expiration date, the agency claims it was taken off guard by the number of renewal applications it has received this year. Now a new plan has been implemented that should make the renewal process easier for both the INS and for applicants. Beginning June 20, 2000, INS Application Support Centers (ASC) will begin accepting green card renewal applications. To apply under the new procedures, the applicant must bring a completed form I-90, used to apply for a new green card, and a check for 0 for the fee. They must also bring their old green card as well as copies of the front and back of the card, two color photographs and a form of personal identification such as a driver’s license or passport. If the applicant’s name has changed since their old green card was issued, they should bring documentation of the change. There are special considerations for some ASCs. - In New York, applicants must call 1-800-375-5283 to schedule an appointment
- In Los Angeles, applications will not be accepted at the following offices: Wilshire, Buena Park or Fairfax. Applications will be accepted at Bellflower, South El Monte, Santa Ana, Riverside, Gardena, Van Nuys, Pomona, Oxnard and Goleta
- Applications for the Laredo ASC must be sent to the San Antonio ASC
- Applications for the Columbus, Ohio ASC must be sent to either the Cleveland or Cincinnati ASC
- Applications for the Jackson, Mississippi ASC must be sent to either the New Orleans, Memphis, or Birmingham ASC
- Applications for the Nashville, Tennessee ASC must be sent to either to Memphis, Louisville, or Atlanta ASC
- Applications for the Salisbury, Maryland ASC must be sent to either the Baltimore or Wheaton ASC
- Applications will be accepted at the Houston, Maine and Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan ASCs.
