LEGISLATIVE UPDATE During House debates on the appropriations bill for the Commerce, Justice and State Departments, Rep. Sheila Jackson-Lee (D-TX) attempted to include an amendment that would have changed the registry date from 1972 to 1986. Her attempt was defeated through a House rule that prevents inclusion of amendments that would change existing law in appropriations bills. ********* H.R 4738, introduced by Rep. Jim Kolbe, (R-AZ), would establish a High Level Commission on Immigrant Labor Policy. The purpose of the Commission would be to study the interactions between immigration policy and the US labor markets, with particular focus on whether foreign workers, both legal and undocumented, are needed in the labor market.
