FEDERAL AUTHORITIES ARREST MAN ON CHARGES OF IMPORTING BOYS FOR SEX
Michael Charles Smith, a math teacher at a Denver area high school was recently arrested by INS agents on charges of smuggling young Mexican boys to the US for sexual purposes. Authorities also say he was a member of a group that used a vacation home in Acapulco to have sex with boys. When INS agents arrested him at his home, they also discovered three Mexicans living there. None of them were authorized to be in the US. One of the men, now 26, had lived with Smith since he was 16. Another, now 19, had lived with him for five years. Authorities do not yet have many details concerning the third. The investigation into Smith began last fall, when a Customs Service agent learned about the house in Acapulco from one of the other members of the group. According to authorities, the members of the group also used computers to exchange pictures and videos of Mexican boys engaged in sexual activity. So far Smith has been charged with harboring an illegal alien, which is punishable by up to five years in prison. He may also be charged with other offenses that relate more directly to the charges of sexual abuse, charges that carry longer prison sentences.
