TEMPORARY PROTECTED STATUS FOR KOSOVO TERMINATED
The Attorney General has decided to terminate Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Kosovars in the US. TPS was granted in June, 1999, and was set to expire one year later. However, because the decision to terminate was not made 60 days before it expired, there is an automatic extension for six months. TPS will now expire next December. Those who have already applied for TPS must reapply if they want to maintain that status until December. The application period is from May 23, 2000 to June 22, 2000. No fee is required unless the applicant is also seeking employment authorization. People who do not already have TPS can apply for it during this period also, if they meet certain requirements. They must have been in the US since last June, when TPS was initially granted, and they must have, at that time, held valid immigration status. Applications should be filed with the person’s local INS office.
