The Imperial (California) Irrigation District has approved a preliminary plan that would call for the installation of safety lines along the All-American Canal. The canal, which is on the border between California and Mexico, is often used by people trying to sneak into the US. Dangerous conditions in the canal have led to numerous deaths over the years. At least 20 deaths were recorded in the canal last year alone. The volunteer group that is sponsoring the lines hopes to have them in place by this spring.
