A confrontation between immigrant smugglers and a group of migrants resulted in the drowning of a woman and her 14-year-old daughter in California. The smugglers, who were transporting three migrants, including the woman and her daughter, came across a van parked in the middle of a road often used by smugglers. One of them got out to inspect the van when shots were fired at him. As he ran away, the driver of the smuggler’s car tried to drive away, but lost control and the car went down an embankment into the All-American Canal. The driver was not located, and is believed to escape, but the bodies of the woman and her daughter were found trapped in the car in the canal.
