This week the Mexican government began showing video warning messages on buses bound for the US border, hoping to reduce the number of people who try to cross the border without authorization.  According to the Mexican government, 491 Mexicans died trying to cross the border last year, and already this year more than 160 have died.

Three men were arrested this week and charged with immigrant smuggling and conspiracy.  They were the first arrested in connection with the deaths of three Chinese stowaways on board the cargo ship Cape May last year.  When the ship was inspected in the port of Seattle, 18 people were found in a cargo container.  They had made the three-week journey from Hong Kong with very little food or water.  According to the court documents, the smugglers charged the immigrants ,000 each for the journey.
