A Mexican citizen suspected in the murder of several young women in Ciudad Juarez in 1996 was recently arrested in Dallas.  The man, Jose Juarez Rosales, was arrested on unrelated charges, and officials with the Mexican Attorney General’s office in San Antonio notified Dallas officials that it might be the same man.  Extradition proceedings began immediately.  Rosales, who is in the US without authorization, is being held by the INS.

Prosecutors recently added new charges to the indictment against four men accused of seriously beating a man in a parking lot near the San Ysidro Port of Entry in California.  The four already faced charges of conspiracy, assault and attempted robbery.  Ben and Jeremiah Pospisil, Jason Phillips and Kristopher Gill now also face charges of torture and attempted murder, charges that mean they now face a potential life sentence if convicted.  In the incident, Stephen Pappas, who is of Mexican descent, was beaten so severely that he lost much of his nose and his face was permanently disfigured.  The four defendants have pled not guilty.

A world champion boxer from Cuba recently arrived in Florida, allegedly trying to avoid tax issues in Germany, where he had political asylum.  Juan Carlos Gomez was released by the INS, and will most likely be allowed to remain in the US under the Cuban Adjustment Act even though he has been granted asylum in another country.

INS agents in Nebraska recently arrested two Bahamian men.  Both are wanted in the Bahamas on charges of murdering a police officer in 1997.  One of the men was convicted of assault while in the US.  Both will be deported.
