Last weekend a Border Patrol agent shot and killed a man trying to enter the US without authorization. The incident occurred north of the border in Arizona as the agent was attempting to apprehend a group of three border crossers. During the attempt, the agent’s gun accidentally went off, according to a spokesperson for the local sheriff’s department. The agent has been placed on administrative leave pending an investigation. The Mexican government has called for a full investigation, and the FBI is considering whether to open an investigation into civil rights violations.

Federal agents in Mexico this week announced that they had arrested a man suspected of being one of the top Mexican smugglers. Raul Antonio Espinoza Rojas is accused of controlling a smuggling network that reaches all the way into South America.

A recent raid by the Border Patrol on a strip club in El Paso resulted in the discovery of more than 30 undocumented immigrants. According to the agents, the club was a stopover on a smuggling route that transported immigrants from Mexico and into the interior of the US. The manager of the club faces charges of harboring undocumented immigrants. The club owner has not yet been charged.
