STATE DEPARTMENT OFFICIALLY AUTHORIZES REVALIDATION OF O AND P VISAS
The State Department recently issued a regulation authorizing the Visa Office to revalidate O and P visas within the US. This rule makes the practice official, as the Visa Office has for some time been revalidating O and P visas. Visa revalidation is a process where a person with an expiring visa can avoid having to leave the US to get a new visa stamp. Instead, the State Department in Washington, DC will stamp the passport. This is very convenient because it means that a person can avoid having to deal with a US consulate abroad. A person with an E, H, L, I, O, or P visa can apply for the State Department to reissue a visa. The following documentation needs to be submitted with a visa revalidation application: - original I-94
- I-797 approval notice
- completed OF-156
- passport valid for six months,
- supporting documentation for the visa including a comprehensive letter from the employer
- the company’s FICA and IRS forms if the applicant is the sole employee
