OPENERS
Dear Readers:
What a busy week it has been
for observers of immigration politics and law. In just one week, we have seen
the US House of Representatives pass Section 245i of the Immigration and
Nationality Act, a defection by a Republican Senator that now means the Senate
Immigration Subcommittee will be run by a Democrat, the INS' long-awaited
introduction of premium processing and a major court decision affecting access
to health care for undocumented immigrants. We cover all of these issues this
week plus all of our regular features.
This week is also significant for me for a completely different reason. After
much work, the latest edition of the J-1 VISA GUIDEBOOK has been released. This
book, co-authored by me, Steve Yale-Loehr and Bill Stock, is the only book
solely devoted to this subject. And we have attempted to make it as complete a
resource as possible. In addition to our own writing, we have included nearly a
thousand pages of resources many of which are not readily available in other
books or on the Internet. The book can be published online at http://bookstore.lexis.com/bookstore/catalog?action=product&pk=12991.
In firm news, we are pleased to welcome two interns to our Memphis office. Simon
Bieber is recent graduate of the University of Western Ontario. Jenny McLendon
is currently attending the University of North Carolina. They will soon be
joined by three more interns in our Memphis office. Welcome Simon and Jenny!
And finally, as always, we remind readers that this newsletter is published by
Siskind, Susser, Haas & Devine, a law firm that represents
clients throughout North America. If you are interested in scheduling a
telephone consultation to discuss immigration questions you may have or to
discuss the possibility of Siskind, Susser, Haas & Devine handling your
immigration case, please go to http://www.visalaw.com/intake.html.
In most cases, we are able to schedule a consultation within two days and we can
often accommodate evening and weekend appointments.
Thanks again for your continued loyalty.
