LEGISLATIVE UPDATE
H.R.
1892, the Family Sponsor Immigration Act of 2001, introduced by Rep. Ken
Calvert (R-CA), would allow the substitution of a sponsor for purposes of the
affidavit of support when the original sponsor of the immigrant has died.
The new sponsor must be a close family member, and it must also be
determined that the underlying immigrant visa petition should not be revoked.

This week the Senate Immigration Subcommittee held a hearing on the issue of
immigration of doctors, nurses and other health professionals to rural and urban
medically underserved areas. The
testimony from the hearing should be available next week.
