INS TO BEGIN PREMIUM PROCESSING PROGRAM THIS SUMMER
The INS has
confirmed that it will begin premium processing on June 1, 2001.
Sources say that the program will initially include all nonimmigrant
visas except for H-1Bs, TNs and Rs. The
premium processing fee will be $1,000, for which the INS guarantees that the
application will be processed within 15 calendar days, or at least that a
request for evidence will be issued.
Sources also say that the INS will develop more efficient means of communication
for these cases. There is also to
be a way to convert applications filed before June 1 to premium processing.
The INS expects to extend the premium processing program to H-1B applications
sometime in July or August, but says that it wants to develop and become
familiar with the program before including what is expected to be a large number
of H-1B applications.
