LEGISLATIVE UPDATE
H.R. 5041, introduced by Rep. James Hansen (R-UT), would make membership in terrorist organizations engaged in terrorist activity against the US an expatriating act. Unlike other grounds for expatriation, such membership would be assumed to have been committed with the intention of losing US citizenship.
H.R. 5073, the Immigration Security and Efficiency Enhancement Act of 2002, introduced by Rep. Joe Baca (D-CA), would call for a plan on the implementation of technology to speed applications for immigration benefits. The bill envisions the use of electronic signatures to enable electronic filing of applications.
S. 2674, introduced by Sen. Sam Brownback (R-KS), would increase the number of J-1 waivers a state can approve from 20 to 30, and would also make the Conrad waiver program permanent.
