Republican 68th Assembly District candidate Van Tran could be the highest-ranking Vietnamese American elected official in the United States if he is elected in California.
UC Irvine political science professor Mark Petracca told The LA Times that as a political group, Asian Americans don’t have particularly high voter participation rates. As a result, Tran has recently given interviews to the BBC, Radio Free Asia, and the Voice of America. Tran won the March 2 primary and will face Democratic candidate Al Snook in November.
