Border and Enforcement News

According to The Arizona Daily Star, U.S. Border Patrol agents from throughout southern Arizona have recovered the bodies of nine illegal entrants in the last two weeks.  In some cases, people died as Border Patrol agents tried to resuscitate them.  In others, family members wandered the desert for hours looking for help, officials told reporters.

A 24-year-old undocumented immigrant pleaded guilty last week to smuggling more than a dozen others though Smith County, Texas.  The defendant could face up to 10 years in federal prison, but his attorney told The Tyler Morning Telegraph that his client will most likely serve a year to a year and a half in prison, based on the offense and his criminal history.

U.S. immigration and Customs Enforcement agents last week arrested 48 undocumented immigrants in an investigation targeting unauthorized contract workers at the Seymour Johnson Air Force Base in Goldsboro, NC, according to the Washington Times.  Those arrested included laborers and carpenters who worked on the base but did not have access to military files.  The arrests were made after authorities became aware that contract workers had entered the base under false pretenses.

Those arrested are scheduled to appear before a US District Court judge.  In the meantime, they are being held at the Johnston County Jail.
