The Times Herald of Norristown , Pennsylvania reported that the Bridgeport , PA council adopted an ordinance banning undocumented immigrants from working or rending residences in the town. The vote, passed 6-0 during the late October meeting, approved the Illegal Immigration Relief Act. Additionally, the council approved an amended ordinance governing rental properties requiring landlords to register and maintain housing units.
Eddie Cruz, executive director of Accion Communal Latino American de Montgomery County (ACLAMO), protested the Act and said his group may file a legal challenge against the ‘divisive’ measure. Before the measure was approved Cruz asked council to reconsider the ordinance and to table the proposal. "It is obvious to me the ordinance could be used to foment an atmosphere of profiling." Cruz said of the Act.
