DHS Expanding Deportation Reviews to 4 More Cities
The Associated Press reports that the Obama administration is temporarily suspending immigration court dockets in Detroit, New Orleans, Orlando, and Seattle while authorities review thousands of cases as part of a plan to indefinitely delay deportation proceedings for many non-criminal illegally present immigrants.The reviews are part of an Obama administration pledge to focus deportation resources on criminal immigrants and those who pose a national security or public safety threat.
The Associated Press reports that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials say they arrested more than 3,100 immigrants convicted of serious crimes and fugitives in a six-day nationwide sweep.Officials at ICE say the sweep included every state and involved more than 1,900 of the agency’s officers and agents.
