Latino Growth Not Fully Felt at Voting Booth
The New York Times reported that while the growing Latino population is one of the most powerful forces in the 2012 election, Latinos are not registering or voting in numbers that fully reflect their potential. More than 21 million Latinos will be eligible to vote in November. Yet, only half are registered and even less turn out to vote. Recent polls show that Latino voters overwhelmingly support Obama over Romney. However, since only 10 to 12 percent of Latinos vote, Hispanic leaders and Democrats worry as they rally to increase Latino support.
Interviews with Latinos across the country have suggested a variety of reasons for their nonparticipation, from a distrust of government to fear of intimidating immigration enforcement efforts. In addition, while the increase of younger voters helps boost the overall number, younger voters have historically been ‘disproportionately uninterested’ in politics.

Romney Won’t Say He’ll Overturn Immigration Order
The Associated Press reported that Mitt Romney refused to say whether he would overturn President Obama’s new "deferred action" policy. In an interview with CBS’ ‘Face the Nation,’ Romney was asked three times if he would overturn Obama’s order, but he did not answer the question, directly. Instead, Romney states that he would work to pass a law to help young people who were brought to the United States by their parents, ‘through no fault of their own.’ Romney’s comments represent a shift in his rhetoric regarding immigration, as he had previously pledged to veto any legislation backed by Democrats that would have created a path to citizenship for illegal immigrants brought to the U.S. as children.
