CLINTON AUTHORIZES 112,000 REFUGEES FOR FY 1995
The President has authorized the admission of 112, 100 refugees during fiscal year 1995 which began October 1, 1994. The numbers are allocated as follows: Africa - 7,000 East Asia - 40,000 Former Soviet Union/Eastern Europe - 48,000 Latin America/Caribbean - 8,000 Near East/South Asia - 5,000 Unallocated (funded) - 2,000 The 2,000 unallocated visas may be used in any country or region where the U.S. has a special humanitarian concern. The President also specified that persons in Vietnam, Cuba, Haiti and the former Soviet Union may, if otherwise qualified, be considered refugees within their countries of nationality or habitual residence.  |
