Nonimmigrant Visas: Applications should be made in person rather than by mail or travel agent. The consulate has an appointment requirement during busy months and applicants should arrive early in the morning to secure an appointment for the same day. Check with the consulate to find out if an appointment is necessary at the time you will be visiting. Visas are issued on the same day they are approved. Applicants refused a visa because of failure to demonstrate nonimmigrant intent must wait a year before they reapply in person. A request for reconsideration of this decision may be made by writing to the consulate and should be accompanied by appropriate supporting documents. The visa issuance rate is approximately 65%. 
Immigrant Visas: Visas are issued on the day of approval and must be picked up personally by the applicant or a family representative. The consulate is very strict about documentary requirements due to concern about fraud. The consulate frequently requests secondary evidence of relationship and/or work experience.
