INS REPORT REVEALS MASSIVE DECREASE IN LEGAL IMMIGRATION
The INS, in its latest statistical report entitled "IMMIGRATION TO THE UNITED STATES IN FISCAL YEAR 1994," reports a 9.3 % drop in legal immigration numbers versus Fiscal Year ("FY") 1993. The largest declines came from nationals of the Phillipines, El Salvador, the People's Republic of China and Vietnam. Employment immigration numbers fell from 147,012 in FY 1993 to 123,291 in FY 1994. Family numbers fell by 14,815 in the same time period. The number of asylees who adjust status declined by more than half from 11,804 to 5,983. Ironically, the popular notion that immigration to the US is increasing without any control is spurring much of the anti-immigration legislation working its way through Congress. |
