DEPARTMENT OF STATE RELEASES DV-96 LOTTERY STATISTICS
The Department of State ("DOS") has announced that it has now drawn all of the names from the DV-96 green card lottery. Applications for the lottery were accepted from January 31, 1995 to March 1, 1995. DOS drew 100,000 names and will make 55,000 visas available. Visas will begin being issued October 1, 1995 and action on any visa application must be completed by September 30, 1996. Because more names are drawn than visas are available, selected applicants are strongly urged to act quickly. DOS expects to be done notifying winners by the end of August. ONLY THE WINNERS WILL BE NOTIFIED. IF YOU DO NOT RECEIVE NOTIFICATION BY THE EARLY PART OF SEPTEMBER, YOU SHOULD ASSUME THAT YOU HAVE NOT WON. DOS WILL NOT INFORM YOU IF YOUR NAME IS ON THE LIST OF WINNERS. 
The National Visa Center received approximately 4.5 million qualified entries during the application period. An additional 2.2 million applications were received, but were disqualified for failing to properly follow directions.
