Question: Is there a visa for spouses of TN-1 visa holders and, if so, does the spouse have to be a Canadian or a Canadian landed immigrant?
Answer: NAFTA classifies the spouses of TN-1 visaholders as TD visaholders. Persons holding TD status get the same one year period of entry as the TN principal and get to apply for extensions alongside the TN principal. Remember that TD visaholders are not allowed to work unless independent work authorization is obtained (though attending school is not prohibited). Spouses who are not Canadian citizens or landed immigrants are entitled to get TD status, but they must obtain the visa prior to seeking admission to the US (unless they have a valid Canadian border crossing card). The visa can be obtained at a US consulate.
Question: I have a green card and I am planning on moving to another state soon. What do I need to do?
Answer: The law requires that you notify INS every time you change addresses. You are required to submit a Form AR-11 postcard within ten days of your changing addresses. You can get the form either at your local INS office or a post office. You will need to mail the form to the Department of Justice, Immigration and Naturalization Service, Washington, DC 20536.
