STATE DEPARTMENT ANNOUNCES NEW RULES RELATING TO WHERE NONIMMIGRANT VISA APPLICATIONS MAY BE FILED The Department of State has issued a rule allowing the Deputy Assistant Secretary to designate the geographical areas over which consular offices have jurisdiction to process nonimmigrant visas. This will mean that aliens may now be authorized to apply at any nonimmigrant visa issuing office within the territory of the country of the alien's residence. This is in contrast to the old rule that required an alien to apply at the consular office in the consular district in which the alien resides. The new rule will allow the Deputy Assistant Secretary to determine that aliens resident in a country in which there is more than one consular office processing nonimmigrant visas to apply at a designated post or at any of those nonimmigrant visa processing consular offices in that country. < Back | Next >Disclaimer: This newsletter is provided as a public service and not intended to establish an attorney client relationship.
