LEGISLATIVE UPDATE
There's not much news to report since our last bulletin regarding either one of the two major immigration reform packages being debated in Congress - the Smith Bill in the House of Representatives and the Simpson Bill in the Senate. The Simpson Bill is awaiting debate in the Senate Judiciary Committee. Mark up in the Judiciary Committee is now not expected until February 29, 1996 at the earliest. The delay is apparently due to Senate Majority Leader Bob Dole's presidential campaign activities. The House Bill has been ready for debate by the entire body of the House of Representatives for several months. A vote is now expected during the week of March 18th. Your actions to defeat or modify these extreme bills do make a difference and you are urged to make your voices heard. Resources to assist you in this effort - sample letters, links to e-mail addresses of members of Congress, etc. are available at our Web site (http://www.visalaw.com).
