LEGISLATIVE UPDATE

There has been little development since our last issue on either of the two major immigration reform bills in the US Congress - the Smith Bill in the House of Representatives and the Simpson Bill in the US Senate. The Smith Bill awaits a vote on the floor of the House of Representative. The Simpson Bill must be heard next by the Senate Judiciary Committee. Action in both Houses could come at any time, but the budget battle and the holiday season appear to be pushing everything back. In the mean time, intensive lobbying over various provisions in both bills is going on.
