Nonimmigrant Visas: Irish residents may apply in person, by mail, or via a drop box. Mail applications typically require 10 business days to process. Those using the drop box must submit applications between 8:30 am and 4:00 pm. The applications should be submitted in an envelope and marked "FOR COLLECTION ONLY." Stamped passports may be picked up that business day if the application is dropped before 12:00 to the next business day by 2:30 pm if the application is submitted early enough. Visa interviews are normally waived. If an interview is required, it will be on 2:30 on the day after the application is submitted. There are no limits on the timing or the number of reapplications which can be made if a visa is denied. The approval rate on resubmitted applications is about 30%. The overall visa issuance rate is extremely high at more than 98%. The few cases that are denied are typically single, young and do not have substantial ties to Ireland. Irish nationals no longer need visas to visit the US as they are participants in the Visa Waiver Pilot Program. 
Immigrant Visas: Interview appointments are typically scheduled on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays and visas are usually issued that day. Approximately four months are usually required for consular processing. Processing can typically be initiated with a cabled I-797 Approval instead of processing through the National Visa Center. The approval rate for immigrant visas is nearly 100%. Northern Irish applicants can process here with no problems.
