NEW FEATURE: IMMIGRATION AND THE INTERNET: IMMIGRATION AND NATURALIZATION SERVICE REVAMPS WEB SITE
We are pleased to offer a new section to our newsletter which reports on important new sources for immigration-related information on the Internet. Each month we will report on new or existing sites on the World Wide Web or elsewhere on the Internet where people can get useful information on US, Canadian (and worldwide) immigration. Please send any suggestions you may have for stories to gsiskind@visalaw.com.
The Immigration and Naturalization Service has substantially increased the content on its World Wide Web Page http://gopher.usdoj.gov/ins. Initially, the INS site was a simple one page site with the INS Commissioner's resume. The site now contains information in the following areas:
- * Agency information - mission statement, organization, customer service intiatives
- * Public information - statistics, media-related, immigration law and regulations, Freedom of Information Act and Privacy Act Information, Frequently Asked Questions, Downloadable Forms, Forms By Mail
- * Employer Information - Employment Verification Pilot Programs, Employment Eligibility Verification Form I-9, links to frequently asked questions
- * Procurement Notices - Pre-Solicitation for the Base Operating Support Systems (BOSS) Contract Federal Government Web Site links
- * What's New on the INS Site
The site's statistical information section contains annual statistical reports, immigration fact sheets, legislative history and an immigration glossary. The Media Communications library contains press releases and progress reports. The law and regulations sections contains the complete text of the Immigration and Nationality Act and Title 8 of the Code of Federal Regulations. Information on the new Welfare bill is also included in the Public Information section of the site. The downloadable forms are fairly limited for now, but one can get the I-9 employment verification form and a few others at the site using a free Adobe Acrobat reader.
