Immigrant Visas: The consulate will accept the direct filing of a petition if both US citizen spouse and Japanese spouse are resident in Japan. If either lives outside Japan, the Consulate will forward the petition to the INS office in Seoul, South Korea. For those eligible to apply for spouses in Japan, I-130 applications may be filed by mail or in person. If filing in person, you may drop the application off between 9:00 am and 12:30 pm and 1:30 pm and 5:00 pm Monday through Friday. Interviews are conducted at the Tokyo US embassy and the filing fees are $200 payable in cash either in US dollars or the equivalent in yen at the exchange rate in effect at the Embassy on the day of the interview.

Non-immigrant Visas

E Visas- Form OF-156 Supplement E form used. E visa applications should be submitted in advance by mail, courier, travel agent or authorized company representative. A stamped, self-addressed enveloped should be included. Processing typically takes ten working days.

B, F, J, H and M Visas - Applications can be submitted through a travel agent, by mail (address the application to Visas by Mail at the Osaka consulate) with a self-addressed stamped envelope or at the consulate between 9:00 am and 3:00 pm Monday through Friday. Applications generally take five working days to process

Japan is a visa waiver country and persons coming for short visits do not need a visa.
