E-2 TREATY INVESTOR STATUS TO BE AVAILABLE FOR NATIONALS OF JORDAN, GEORGIA AND AZERBAIJAN
The United States has signed two new investment treaties with the countries of Jordan and Azerbaijan. The treaties will permit nationals of those countries to receive E-2 Treaty Investor non-immigrant visas in the US. A previously signed treaty with the nation of Georgia is scheduled to take force on August 17, 1997. There is no way to predict at this point when the treaties with Jordan and Azerbaijan will take effect. Some treaties take years to enter force, often because the other country refuses to ratify it. For example, the US signed a treaty with Russia in 1992. The main obstacle to the treaty taking effect is the Russian Duma's failure to approve it.
