VISITING MEXICAN FOREIGN MINISTER CRITICIZED US BORDER POLICY
One seldom thinks of immigration matters having an environmental impact, but that is currently the case in the southwest U.S. and northern Mexico. Enormous fences are being erected along the southern U.S. border, and roads are being built that involve moving tremendous amounts of earth. Environmentalists charge the changes could destroy the habitat of rare plants and birds.
The problem was noted by the Mexican Foreign Minister, Rosario Green as she toured the border area near Tijuana. Seeing the construction caused the Foreign Minister to doubt whether current efforts between the U.S. and Mexico to "create a new vision of the border" have much chance of succeeding.
Even as the U.S. steps up its border patrol efforts, the Mexican government has rescinded a law providing for the automatic revocation of one's Mexican citizenship when a Mexican national got citizenship from another country.
