IMMIGRATION AND NATURALIZATION SERVICE BREAKS UP DOCUMENT FRAUD RING IN INDIA
The INS' international enforcement efforts have produced more successful results. In New Delhi, Juganjeet Singh Sidhu, leader of a widespread document fraud ring, was arrested through the combined efforts of the INS and local police.
Sidhu would arrange for large groups to go to the U.S. embassy in New Delhi for tourist visas. He would then charge them about $14,500 for a forged letter from Texas A&M University so they could obtain a nonimmigrant visa. Sidhu then arranged for them to be smuggled out of India into the U.S. where they were met by people working for Sidhu.
Investigation into the U.S. side of the scheme is ongoing, with as many as 40 fraudulent petitions for nonimmigrant visas pending.
