HHS ANNOUNCES FY1998 FUNDS FOR REFUGEE SOCIAL SERVICES
On June 29, 1998, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) announced that a total of $90.9 million in funds is available to the states for formula social services under the Refugee Resettlement Program (RRP) in FY 1998. The funds will be allocated to the states on the basis of each state's proportion to the national population of refugees who have been in the US for 3 years or less as of October 1, 1997. The refugee populations include Cuban/Haitian entrants, Amerasians from Vietnam and Kurdish asylees. Florida is set to receive the largest allocation of funds ($16.8 million). California is to receive $13.6 million, and New York is to receive $11.6 million.
