Non-Immigrant Visas
The Non-Immigrant Visa Section is open to the public between 0900-1100 am, Monday through Friday, except for American and Norwegian holidays. NIV applicants should submit applications in person or by mail. Applications by mail must include a self-addressed stamped return envelope and be addressed to American Embassy, Visa Section, 0244 Oslo. The only time a visa application by mail are not accepted is when the applicant is in the US on the Visa Waiver Pilot Program.
There is a $45 non-refundable NIV application fee for all applications except the following:
Diplomatic visas (A, G, and NATO visas) Exchange programs (J visas) sponsored by USIA or USAID (program numbersbeginning with G-1 or G-2).
The fee must be paid in advance and be in dollars or kroners at the consular exchage rate (currently 6.5 kroner to the dollar or 130 kroner.) There is reciprocity visa fee for Norwegian nationals, though this fee may apply to third country nationals applying in Oslo.

Visas are typically processed in less than a day. Applicants can typically collect their visa the day after the application is submitted .
The overall denial rate is surprisingly high - 20%
Immigrant Visas:
Interviews are conducted only on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays and only between 9:00 am and 11:00 am. When the consulate is satisfied that the applicant has all documents in order, they will then schedule a doctor's appointment and an immigration interview.
The current cost of each formal immigrant visa application is $260; if the visa is approved the current costfor issuance is $65. Norwegian Kroner equivalents are acceptable.
