TEMPORARY PROTECTED STATUS EXTENDED TO KOSOVO
The Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS) has designated residents of the Province of Kosovo in the Republic of Serbia in the State of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia as eligible for Temporary Protected Status (TPS) from June 9, 1998 until June 8, 1999. The INS may designate a state as falling under the TPS category upon finding that the state is experiencing ongoing armed conflict, environmental disaster or extraordinary and temporary conditions that prevent nationals or residents of the country from returning in safety.
This designation is available to residents of Kosovo Province (or aliens having no nationality who last resided in Kosovo Province) who have been continuously physically present and who have continuously resided in the U.S. since June 9, 1998. Those who are eligible may apply for TPS beginning on June 9, 1998 and ending on June 8, 1999. An application for TPS has no adverse effect and does not preclude an application for asylum or any other immigration benefit.
