LOUISIANA, KENTUCKY, TENNESSEE AND CALIFORNIA INS OFFICES WILL NO LONGER PROCESS NATURALIZATION APPLICATIONS

The Immigration and Naturalization Service has announced that it will expand the naturalization direct mail program to persons residing in a number of local district offices in the southern US and in California and naturalization applications will no longer be filed at the local INS offices in the covered areas. Beginning February 20, 1998, applicants for naturalization residing within the jurisdiction of the following district offices and sub-offices must mail their N-400 Naturalization Applications to the INS Texas Service Center, Attention: N-400 Unit, PO Box 851204, Mesquite, Texas 75185-1204:

  • New Orleans, Louisiana
  • Memphis, Tennessee
  • Louisville, Kentucky

Beginning February 20, 1998, applicants for naturalization residing within the jurisdiction of the following district offices and sub-offices must mail their N-400 Naturalization Applications to the INS California Service Center, Attention: N-400 Unit, PO Box 10400, Laguna Niguel, California 92607-0400:

  • San Francisco, California
  • Fresno, California
  • Oakland, California
  • Sacramento, California
  • San Jose California

For sixty days, local INS offices will continue to accept applications and forward them on to the regional service centers. After that, applicants will be directed to mail their application directly to the service centers noted above. For those filing under the new program, they will eventually receive written notification from their respective district or suboffice of the date, place and time of their interview for naturalization.
