INS ORDERS FORMER NAZI COLLABORATOR DEPORTED
Almost one year after the INS initiated deportation proceedings against Vincas Valkavickas, he has reached a settlement with the U.S. under which he has admitted to serving under the Nazis during World War II, and agreed to voluntarily leave the country before June 30. Valkavickas, a Lithuanian who came to the U.S. in 1950, served in the Nazi controlled Lithuanian police force. Records from the war show that Valkavickas served as a guard of Jewish prisoners in Lithuania, and was present when over 3,700 Jewish men, women and children were murdered over a two-day period, October 7-8, 1941. The settlement does not preclude the possibility of future legal proceedings, including possible criminal charges.
