USIA LOOSENS RULES FOR SHORT TERM SCHOLARS
The United States Information Agency has amended its regulations on short-term scholars to allow them to lecture and consult at institutions not listed on the Form IAP-66. Short-term scholars can come to the US for up to six months to lecture, observe, consult and participate in seminars, workshops, conferences, study tours, professional meetings and other educational and professional activities. Program sponsors have long been asking the USIA to amend its rules to allow short-term scholars to have the flexibility to accept invitations to lecture and consult at institutions not listed on the Form IAP-66. The USIA has agreed and now has amended the rules to permit the program sponsor’s responsible officer to authorize the participant’s acceptance of such invitations.
