Jurisdiction:
The consulate at Sydney processes application from New South Wales, Queensland and the ACT.
Most Australians coming to the U.S. as visitors for 90 days of less will qualify for the Visa Waiver Pilot Program.
Nonimmigrant visas: 
Counter service is available at the U.S. Consulate in Sydney on Monday through Friday between 8:00am and 12:30pm (except on American and Australian holidays).
Form OF-156 must be accompanied by a .75 fee; applications for certain types of nonimmigrant visas may require an additional fee.
Nonimmigrant visas are usually processed within 2 days.
Immigrant visas:
Counter service is available at the U.S. Consulate in Sydney on Friday between 8:00am and 4:00pm (except on American and Australian holidays).
