A MESSAGE FROM SISKIND, SUSSER, HAAS & DEVINE
Dear Readers:
The past month has been very busy on the immigration front. So busy, that we are publishing what is our largest newsletter ever – 56 stories covering more than 80 pages . We include all of our regular features – Immigration and the Internet, Visa Spotlight, Government Processing Times, Border and Deportation Roundup, etc. We also have dozens of articles covering the latest news.
For at least some of our readers, we have good news to report this month on new immigration legislation that has become law. Congress and the President have approved legislation to restore national interest waivers to physicians serving in health professional shortage areas and a few hundred nurses a year will now be eligible for the new H-1C visa if they are working in a large hospital in a health professional shortage area. A few weeks ago, we published a special newsletter summarizing the status. If you have not had a chance to view the newsletter, it can be found at http://www.visalaw.com/99novspec/. We also have some additional news about the new laws to report in this issue as well.
Siskind, Susser, Haas & Devine, publishers of this newsletter, are pleased to make a number of announcements. First, Greg Siskind was honored by the Memphis Business Journal as one of the 40 most influential business executives under age 40 in the city. He received commendations from the Memphis City Council and the Mayor of Memphis as well. SSHD’s marketing director Sandra McQuain also made the highly competitive list.
Greg Siskind was also interviewed for a report that aired November 23rd on National Public Radio’s All Things Considered concerning the impact of the Internet on the way lawyers practice their profession. Joshua Levs, the reporter on the story, learned of SSHD when American Bar Association President Bill Paul recently commended the firm for the innovative ways it is using the Internet to deliver immigration legal services to the public. The story can be heard in Real Audio by going to http://www.npr.org/ramfiles/atc/19991123.atc.16.ram.
Greg also is the author of a chapter in the just-released American Bar Association book THE COMPLETE GUIDE TO MARKETING YOUR LAW PRACTICE. Not surprisingly, he wrote the chapter on Internet marketing for lawyers.
Immigration lawyer Phil Cargyle has joined our Nashville office as an associate. Phil is a 1996 graduate of the University of North Carolina Law School and has been practicing immigration law in Nashville since that time. Welcome!
Also, we remind you of our other free newsletters. Siskind's Immigration Professional is a newsletter that provides notices of job openings, reporters seeking story leads, conference announcements, book and software reviews and other announcements that will be of interest to immigration lawyers, paralegals, foreign student advisors and anyone else who handles immigration matters for a living. If you handle immigration matters for a living and wish to be added to our email distribution list, just go to http://www.visalaw.com/sip-intro.html. More than 1000 of our readers who are immigration professionals have already subscribed.
Our other newsletter is brand new and the first issue will be released shortly. It is called VISALAW PHYSICIAN and is designed to provide immigration information targeted to doctors. The newsletter is tied into our new Visalaw Physician Info Center on the web site at http://www.visalaw.com/IMG/resources.html.
And as always, we remind readers that this publication is put out by Siskind, Susser, Haas & Devine, an immigration law firm, and we are available for telephone or in-person consultations to answer immigration questions and discuss our representing individuals and employers in immigration matters. If interested, please go to http://www.visalaw.com/intake.html.
Regards,
Greg Siskind
