FOREIGN STUDENTS AND SCHOLARS SHOULD RENEW VISAS SOON TO AVOID Y2K PROBLEMS
NAFSA, the leading organization representing the needs of foreign students in the US is recommending that international students and scholars in the US apply for visa renewal as soon as possible to avoid any problems that might result from the Y2K computer problem. This is particularly so because if there are problems as a result of the Y2K bug, US consulates and embassies will make American citizen services their top priority. Therefore, in order to avoid possible complications in visa renewals, foreign student advisers should urge foreign students and scholars to renew their visas prior to January 1.
People seeking more information on the State Department's Y2K policy should refer to the department's web site at http://travel.state.gov/y2kca.html.
