MAN SENTENCED TO PROBATION FOR ROLE IN IMMIGRATION MARRIAGE FRAUD SCANDAL
Manuel Febus, who married 16 women to help them get their green cards, has been sentenced to five years on probation. He faced as much as five years in prison, but received only probation as a result of his promise to help authorities investigate a larger marriage fraud conspiracy.
Februs was paid up to $400 for each marriage. His attorney said he was a minor player in the conspiracy. According to the lawyer, his client was trying to raise money to send to his ailing father in Puerto Rico. While authorities cannot reveal which cases Februs has cooperated in, it is known that his assistance has led to recent indictments.
