Under the Immigration and Nationality Act, nationalities of certain countries may apply for admission to the United States for 90 days or less as nonimmigrant visitors for business or pleasure without first obtaining a nonimmigrant visa. In order for a country’s citizens to qualify for this benefit, that country must not require visas for citizens of the US entering for 90 days or less. The country must also meet the statutorily prescribed limits on visa refusal rates for the prior two year period. The country must also have a machine-readable passport program and the US Attorney General must determine that law enforcement interests would not be compromised by the designation of the country as a Visa Waiver country.

Argentina and Australia now join the list of eligible countries. The others include:

  • United Kingdom
  • Japan France
  • Switzerland
  • Germany
  • Sweden
  • Italy
  • Netherlands
  • Andorra
  • Austria
  • Belgium
  • Denmark
  • Finland
  • Iceland
  • Liechtenstein
