POP STAR LILY ALLEN HAS WORK VISA REVOKED
Lily Allen, the British pop singer whose CD Smile topped the charts last summer, was detained for five hours last night at Los Angeles International Airport and had her work visa revoked. The reason for the revocation was an arrest for assault on a photographer outside a London nightclub in June for an incident that allegedly occurred in March. Ms. Allen has not stood trial for the arrest yet.
Ms. Allen was allowed to enter the country presumably in a parole status for a few weeks. This will allow her to attend the MTV Music Awards. But Ms. Allen's US tour, which begins in San Diego in September, is in jeopardy if the matter cannot be resolved. Because Ms. Allen has only been accused of committing an assault, she should have a case to make that she is not inadmissible.
