National Public Radio reported this morning on difficulties Canadian entertainers face entering the US. The story essentially shows the flaw in our entertainment immigration statutory framework – the system doesn’t provide for short, last minute gigs. If you want to immigrate to the US or go through the long, expensive process of securing an O-1 visa, there are options in place. If you just want to cross the border and perform a couple of sets at an American club, forget it.

Canadian singer Johanna Chapman-Smith is interviewed in the story about her experiences dealing with US immigration.
