ARIZONA LEGAL AID GROUPS FIGHT FOR LEGAL IMMIGRANTS' HEALTHCARE
Arizona legal aid groups, the William E. Morris Institute for Justice and the Arizona Center for Disability Law have filed suit in federal court in Tuscon, Arizona claiming the Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System risks the lives of poor legal immigrants by a recent policy change to refuse to pay for kidney dialysis as an emergency medical service.
In December of 2001, the director of the state cost containment agency changed the definition of “emergency medical service” to exclude outpatient dialysis, basing the decision on Medicaid regulations.
